Is on-site hosting of a WEAVEonline installation an option?

No. By design, WEAVEonline is hosted application. Our hosting the application centrally provides our subscribers a number of valuable benefits, and we have no plans to deviate from that approach.

What are the WEAVEonline system uptime statistics?

We began monitoring WEAVEonline with Big Brother Software on Oct 27, 2005. Since that point, the application server has been available 99.99% of the time, with only two outages reported (Jan 7, 2006 for 13 minutes and 32 seconds at 7:14:37 am Eastern & Apr 4, 2006 for 46 seconds at 7:58:05 Eastern). Both of these down times were scheduled maintenance for system updates.

Describe the WEAVEonline hosting environment.

WEAVEonline is hosted at Virginia Commonwealth University. At present, there is one dedicated Microsoft IIs server for the WEAVEonline application and the MS SQL databases are stored on the University’s primary database server. At this point, server clustering has not been implemented. In the event of a catastrophic hardware failure, the WEAVEonline application would temporarily be moved onto one of the university’s shared IIs servers.

The university has multiple connections to the internet. All systems supporting WEAVEonline are housed at the University Computing Center which has a state of the art computer room with keycard access, raised flooring, racks for mounting equipment, high-capacity air conditioning, and power provided by a battery backed-up building uninterruptible power supply.

Describe the WEAVEonline datacenter operations.

The Virginia Commonwealth University Computing Center (VCUUCC) has a very large capacity ATL tape library which VCUCC uses to provide backup and recovery services to a variety of users. At over 100 terabytes capacity and with SAN connectivity, VCUCC's backup system can meet most needs for backup and archiving data. VCUCC has implemented Tivoli Storage Manager software to provide advanced backup capabilities to clients for backup of disk and database storage.

What DBMS is behind WEAVEonline?

Microsoft SQL (version 2003)

Can the GUI (colors, graphics, border, etc.) style be modified?

At this point, WEAVEonline has limited style customization capabilities. However, this is something that will be addressed in version 4.0. to enable our subscribers to more dramatically customize the software.

Is WEAVEonline US Rehabilitation Act, Sect. 508 compliant?

We are committed to being compliant to the accessibility standards as defined in Section 508.

What browsers and versions are supported for WEAVEonline?

WEAVEonline currently supports the following browsers

  • Windows: Internet Explorer (v6+), Firefox (v1.5+), Netscape (v8+)
  • Macintosh: Firefox (v1.5+)

What kind of support is provided to WEAVEonline users?
